About Our Garlic
What type of garlic do you sell? Plus

We sell Music seed and culinary garlic.

What is Music garlic like? Plus

Music garlic is an Italian hardneck variety of Porcelain garlic. Porcelain garlic refers to varieties that feature bright white outer wrappers and large, easy-to-peel cloves. Music garlic is favored by farmers for its hardy nature, making it perfect for weathering harsh Northeastern winters. When enjoyed raw, it is robust and spicy. When cooked, it is savory, slightly sweet, and highly aromatic.

What makes your garlic heirloom? Plus

We can trace the lineage of our garlic to the 1990's! Our farmer & founder, Matt, purchased our first batch of Music seed garlic from Mr. Hemmingway of Richmond, Maine in 2014. Mr. Hemmingway had been cultivating his garlic stock for 20 years before retiring from farming. He sourced it from Italy, where Music garlic originates! Throughout this time, the garlic was not altered with the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We continue to cultivate the highest quality seed stock and have always farmed chemical free using regenerative farming methods.

Is your garlic organic? Plus

Yes, we are a MOFGA certified organic farm!

How much garlic is in a pound? Plus

Our seed garlic yields about 6 bulbs per pound, with 6-8 cloves per bulb (about 36 cloves in total). Our culinary garlic yields about 10 bulbs per pound, and roughly 4-6 cloves per bulb (about 50 cloves in total).

How do I store culinary garlic? How long does it last? Plus

When stored properly, culinary garlic can keep for about 6 months. The best way to store your garlic is in a cool, dark place with good ventilation. Lay out in a cabinet or pantry, making sure it isn't packed too densely. Avoid plastic bags, stacking in baskets, and storing in the refrigerator.

If the garlic starts to sprout or dry up after a few months, you can peel the cloves and store them in a jar in the refrigerator. This will stall the cloves from sprouting but can expose them to higher levels of moisture, so check for signs of mold.

What is the difference between culinary and seed garlic? Plus

Seed garlic is specially grown to be of a larger size - at least 2" in diameter. The larger the seed, the larger the bulb it will grow. With our seed garlic, you can expect very clean, large bulbs featuring about 6 cloves per bulb.
Our culinary garlic is less than 2" in diameter. The bulbs vary in size and amount of cloves.
